With her new EP Between Us, GIGI explores desire, openness, and sensuality, a project that came together over months and arrives just in time for the cozy season. In this exclusive interview with FemaleRNB, she opens up about the emotions and intentions behind her latest work

To begin, tell us a bit about yourself. Who is GIGI?

What’s up I’m GIGI, I’m originally from Detroit Michigan and I make r&b music

Your new EP if you need me, i'm a few missed calls away has just been released, congratulations! How did it feel to finally share it with the world?

Thank you so much! Releasing my second EP Between Us felt amazing! I took my time and it just feels perfect for where I’m at right now.

How did this project take shape? Was it something you had been building for a while, or did it come from a specific moment or emotion?

This project was actually in the works for some months, it’s speaking on the feels of desire, openness & sensuality. It’s right on time for the cuddle weather coming in lol

The title feels intriguing, almost like a line from an unread message. Why did you choose if you need me, i'm a few missed calls away as the title, and what does it represent to you?

I named this EP Between Us since it’s literally like I’m talking to someone in mind. I felt it was short, sweet & fitting!

Make Up sets the tone for the whole EP, soft, honest, and full of emotion. Why did you choose to open ‘Between Us’ with this song?

I chose Make Up as the opener because it’s the first single I dropped from Between Us. The vibe/context made it perfect to transition into the other songs and ending it perfectly with Hold On really walking the listeners through an 18 min short story that ends on love.

LMK completely shifts the energy, it’s confident, flirty, and full of attitude. What side of yourself were you hoping to show through this track?

I have such a sweet spot for LMK because it bridges the different flares of genres that I do enjoy and love, yet still staying true to me and my sound. That one gave me a chance to showcase more of a vibrant sound and to just have fun with it!

R&B plays a big part in your musical identity, but your sound still feels very personal. Which female artists have shaped or inspired the way you approach your music?

The female artists that inspired me are Brandy, Sade and definitely Beyonce.

If you had to pick one song to represent this project to new listeners, which one would it be, and why?

One song I would pick to represent this project overall would be “Hold On” it evokes the title, conversational and vulnerable.

If you could collaborate with any female R&B artist, past or present, who would it be, and why her?

If I could collab with any female artist past & present I’d pick Sade & SZA. Sade being one of my personal all time favorites so that’d be a dream and SZA because she’s fire! Unique & original, love them both!

What do you hope listeners will take away or feel after hearing the EP?

I hope when listeners play Between Us they get the direct feels of transparency and ease.

And now your new EP is out, where do you want to go next? What are your plans?

Now that this EP is out I plan on creating more in every aspect, more visuals, music, legit putting every idea I have in my mind to use!
