Abby Jasmine LOVE IT FOR ME, HATE IT FOR U

Abby Jasmine

LOVE IT FOR ME, HATE IT FOR U (EP)

With ‘LOVE IT FOR ME, HATE IT FOR U’, Abby Jasmine opens a new chapter rooted in self assurance, emotional clarity, and radical honesty. Across seven tracks, the Staten Island artist moves between confidence, humor, vulnerability, and reflection, turning real life experiences into something both personal and universal.

Written in real time and shaped by whatever emotions came naturally in the moment, the project feels unfiltered and deeply human. Rather than creating songs tied to sadness or moments she would later want to leave behind, Abby approached this EP with a different intention: making music that would age well with her, while leaving room for playfulness, personality, and moments of lightness.

At its core, ‘LOVE IT FOR ME, HATE IT FOR U’ explores self worth, boundaries, perception, and the different versions of ourselves that appear through relationships and everyday life. Through sharp storytelling, honesty, and her signature sense of humor, Abby transforms experiences into something lasting, proving that growth and self expression can exist side by side.

In this conversation with FemaleRNB, Abby Jasmine opens up about the emotions behind the project, the stories that shaped each song, her creative process, and why authenticity remains at the center of everything she creates.

For those who are just discovering you, who is Abby Jasmine?

On the outside looking in, I’m an independent artist & singer-songwriter from Staten Island, NY. Often referred to as Abbitha Jabbitha by my supporters & friends. (I still don’t know who made that name up but u lowkey ruined my life). Lover girl in recovery, part time comedian, my parents’ daughter, my siblings’ sister, my friends’ friend, my ex’s ex, my opp’s opp. Really depends on who you ask.

Your new EP ‘LOVE IT FOR ME, HATE IT FOR U’ is finally out, congrats! How did it feel to share it with the world?

Thank you! Music is a therapeutic outlook for me so any body of work I put out so it’s always reassuring to see that I’m not alone in a lot of the situations I face and that people can relate.

You’ve described this project as a reflection of self assurance and clarity. How did that mindset shape your writing and creative process?

I mostly write in real time so if I’m making a song that’s most likely how I’m feeling in that moment or what I’m going through in that moment. It’s also easier for me to get my thoughts out by writing them down or creating through it so for me it’s a release of whatever emotion I feel, whether happy, sad, mad, or indifferent.

This time around, I didn’t want a bunch of songs to cry to or when I look back, I’m sad about like when I made ‘CLOSURE’. I also wanted to throw my sense of humor in some of the tracks as well, so I made songs that would age well with ME personally as well as the audience.

‘LOVE IT FOR ME, HATE IT FOR U’ sounds like both a boundary and a release, loving yourself even when others don’t get it. What’s the story behind that title?

I have muses. I’m inspired by the good, the bad & the ugly, in life, in the world, in people & in myself. Most people would hate to be my muse.

Love it for me, because despite the things I’ve been through; I heal, get this beautiful work of art (and money) from it. Hate it for u because now you’re immortalized as a goofy.

‘FACES’ explores the different sides we show or hide. What inspired this song, and how did you want that idea to come through in your vocals?

I wrote this song after seeing two sides of a person that I cared for. The side they only show to me, the REAL, authentic THEM, (or what I had assumed was authentic) & the side they show to the world; but that side is a materialistic side that’s curated to get people to notice them. The flashy things.

In the song I say ‘that sh*t is dangerous’, because it is. Eventually the mask slips and everyone sees the real you. ALBUM.

‘CITY GIRLS DOWN BAD’ and ‘UP AT NIGHT’ show two different sides of you, one more confident and playful, the other more introspective and vulnerable. How did you find the balance between these two energies when creating the EP?

Again, I’m a Gemini.

You close the project with ‘CHOPPED CHEESE’, featuring Ransom and Alex Mali, an artist we also follow closely at FemaleRNB. How did that connection happen, and what did Alex bring to the track?

#MALIJASMINE!!! Alex is my girl! We met during the pandemic when I hosted a weekly show for VFILES called ‘PASS THE AUX’ and she was one of the artists who came on to share music and I became a fan.

When it comes to our collaborations, we always end up saying that the songs we send one another always resonate at the time we send them; I had asked her to be on my song ‘CHEERS TO THAT’ from my 2023 album, ‘Growing Pains’ and she was down, we’ve been locked in since.

Fast forward, she asked me to put a verse on her song ‘Snakes In The Grass’ which is actually my favorite song we’ve done. Since then, we’ve gotten to know each other on a more personal level & it’s been really dope to have an artist I admire become a friend.

NOW for ‘CHOPPED CHEESE’. When I made the song I really wanted a R&B girlie to come on and give BARS and she was the first one that came to mind. She delivered as always.

Love her down! Def more collabs in the future.

Across these seven songs, we hear themes like confidence, distance, and vulnerability. What messages or emotions were most important for you to share through this project?

The most important thing to me is to always give my most authentic self at all times.

If you had to choose one song to represent the whole project, which one would it be, and why?

‘FULL-TIME MIDDLE MAN’.

If you listen to any album of mine, most of the time the first track is my thesis statement. That’s where I get everything off my chest and talk about where I’m at in life as well as that present moment.

It was the perfect statement for where I was during the time of making this project.
